Roof Doctors provides licensed roofing services across Pima County, from Tucson's historic neighborhoods and midcentury ranches to the newer communities of Marana and Oro Valley. We repair and replace flat, tile, and shingle roofs, and we have been roofing since 1987.

Pima County roofs center on Tucson, where flat roofs with parapet walls are far more common than in most of Arizona, from territorial and pueblo-style homes to midcentury ranches. To the north and northwest, Oro Valley and Marana are mostly tile-roofed homes in master-planned communities. Large parts of the metro area, including the Catalina Foothills and Casas Adobes, are unincorporated, so permits there go through the county rather than a city.

Pima County has more flat roofs than most Arizona cities, alongside concrete tile and asphalt shingle.

A Tucson signature, from territorial and pueblo-style homes to midcentury ranches. Parapet walls, roof drains, and scuppers are where most leaks start.

Common on newer homes in the foothills and master-planned communities. Leaks usually come from worn underlayment beneath intact tiles, fixed with a tile re-lay.

Found on many ranch homes and tract houses. Desert sun ages asphalt shingles quickly, so granule loss and curling show up early.

Uncommon in the Tucson area. Roof Doctors repairs legacy wood shake where it remains and replaces it with modern materials.

Pima County sits a little higher and cooler than Phoenix, but summers still regularly pass 100°F, and the sun is intense year-round.
The monsoon hits harder here. A large share of the year's rain arrives in summer storms, often as sudden downpours that overwhelm roof drains and scuppers. On flat roofs, that water pools against parapet walls and finds any crack in the coating or stucco.
Summer storms can drop a lot of rain in minutes. Clogged scuppers and roof drains back water up on flat roofs, where it finds cracks in coatings and parapets.
Summer highs regularly pass 100°F. Heat dries out underlayment and sealants and wears through roof coatings.
Parapet caps, stucco cracks, and scupper joints are the most common leak points on Tucson flat roofs.
Concrete tile can outlast the underlayment beneath it by decades. Once heat breaks down the underlayment, leaks appear even though the tiles still look fine.

It depends on where your home is. Addresses inside city or town limits permit through that city or town. Unincorporated areas, such as Catalina Foothills, Casas Adobes, Tanque Verde, and Green Valley, permit through Pima County Development Services. Roof Doctors (Arizona ROC #367029) confirms the jurisdiction and pulls required permits.
Parapets surround the roof and hold water in when drains or scuppers clog. Water that sits against the wall finds cracks in the parapet cap, the stucco, or the flashing where roof meets wall, and gets into the wall itself. Clearing drains before the monsoon and resealing parapet caps prevents most of these leaks.
Late spring, in April or May, is ideal: before the heat peaks and before the monsoon arrives in July. Clearing drains and scuppers before the first storm matters most on flat roofs. A fall check catches monsoon damage.
